all this rain = I don't feel like blogging

except that I wanted to brag that I did in fact do an hour of spin at the club while hubby did weights last night. Then I ate dinner and went out to run with the dog.

It was so hot in the gym - apparently they turned off the air conditioning while they do renos. No sign up or anything so that we would grab extra water before starting our workouts. Oh, and they turned off a couple of the water fountains. Sigh. I drank almost a litre of water while spinning. Thankfully I was able to get husband to fill my water bottle for me so I didn't have to stop going! I was so hot at one point though, I started to shake. Not good. Got the hour done though.

Run with pup was good. It had cooled off by the time we went out (not until 9:00), but it was still humid. Got 'er done though. Puppy was slow near the end. I think he wanted to stroll. Wimp! HAHA

This morning was my first day of yoga camp. The class was an hour and a half and we stretched out our shoulders, hips and hamstrings. All of my tight parts! I feel super bendy now!!

Yoga was followed by awesome coffee time with my two friends (also doing camp) in the cafeteria. Such nice ladies. They are doing a cleanse and asked me to do it with them. At first I thought I might, but then I decided not to. Instead I had 1/2 of cherries and not quite 1/2 cup of blueberries for snack this afternoon. Now, this might seem normal to some of you, but I am NOT a fruit eater, so for me, this is a big deal. I'm going to cleanse that way instead. Au Naturelle!! (wink, wink) Besides, I eat an Activia yogurt every day, and I'm not sure how the cleanse pills will interact with that. Don't want to cause my tummy any distress.

Not much else to report. It isn't looking like I will get my run done today - it is just pouring out. If it lets up even a bit, I may take the dog in the rain. We will see. I know he'll be happy to go, and if I wear a hat and a jacket, I should be fine....

So I have now read on two separate blogs that these bloggers felt that WW advocates eating processed low points food. I can't remember who. My question is open to any WW that happen to be reading today: do you find this to be the case? I only ask out of discussion curiosity. This hasn't been my experience with the program, but I'm curious to know if anyone else has come across this...

Well, I'm off to nap (I love taking a nap when the rain is pouring down on the sky lights - it is soothing..... and relaxing..... must nap..... )

Have a healthy day bloggers!

Good job with the spinning last night! As far as the WW thing, I don't think so. When I was doing WW I felt like they were really pushing the core side of things. Which is why I think they recently changed their program. They're really trying to push people into eating their points differently. BUT that being said, it is true that most all of their products they sell are processed and contain a lot of suspect chemicals. It's an interesting question...

  2. Yeah, I wouldn't say WW actually ENCOURAGES eating processed foods. They seem to always be putting more and more emphasis on real foods, or filling foods, etc. That said, I do think a VERY large percentage of the members lean towards eating junky low-point foods and avoiding any healthy food that's 'too high' in points.

I dunno, that's the thing about WW, though, is that you make the program whatever you want it to be. You CAN be one of those people who still tries to cram as many junk foods into your day as possible -- OR you can be one of those people who realizes, Whoa, I'm so much more satisfied when I eat lots of fruits and veggies and beans and brown rice and eggs and nuts! So I like that the program gives you the option to figure that stuff out for yourself, rather than just dictating exactly what you should or shouldn't eat. If that makes sense!

  3. I must admit that after I learned the points of avocados I almost quit eating them....but I haven't quit drinking beer. How dumb is that????

I don't think WW encourages processed foods, but they sure do seem to have a bunch to sell...

  4. I think a lot depends on who your leader is.

WW as a business though totally wants you to eat processed foods--ever looked at the ingredient list on one of their products? It's all chemicals (and not just preservatives). The Smart Ones dinners come to mind. A pasta dish with sauce and veggies: (a) not whole wheat noodles and (b) I found three very tiny pieces of broccoli. They talk big, but when it comes down to it, it's all about the bucks and what they can sell.

    But maybe that's just me.
    H =)

I actually think WW has gone in a much better direction with its most recent plan. Apparently they had so many people choosing to eat foods on the "Core" plan (mostly unprocessed) while counting Points as thoug on the "Flex" plan, that they tried to incorporate both.

I dunno; I feel like if I eat the required 5 servings of fruits & veggies a day plus 2 lean proteins, etc., I don't have much room for 100 calorie snack packs in my diet.

And while the food sales wing does sell processed junk, the recipes on the site and in the books are usually very healthy.

Yoga Camp sounds fun. You are going to be as flexible as Gumby!

  6. I also don't think they promote processed foods. I think the thing is that their products are kinda processed themselves. But, they are just that, convenience foods and should be incorporated into a healthy diet. I do like that they give you guidelines that recommend the amount of water, oils, milk, fruits/veggies, etc. that you should be getting daily. Once you get all of those in, there isn't much left for crap. The 35 flex points are there for the treats (in my opinion).
